Silver Nitrate Ophthalmic Solution
» Silver Nitrate Ophthalmic Solution is a solution of Silver Nitrate in a water medium. It contains not less than 0.95 percent and not more than 1.05 percent of AgNO3. The solution may be buffered by the addition of Sodium Acetate.
Packaging and storage— Preserve it protected from light, in inert, collapsible capsules or in other suitable single-dose containers.
Clarity and color of solution— It is clear and colorless.
Identification— It responds to the tests for Silver 191 and for Nitrate 191.
Sterility 71: meets the requirements.
pH 791: between 4.5 and 6.0.
Residual solvents 467: meets the requirements.

Assay— Place 5 mL of Ophthalmic Solution, accurately measured, in a conical flask, dilute with 20 mL of water, add 1 mL of nitric acid and 1 mL of ferric ammonium sulfate TS, and titrate with 0.02 N ammonium thiocyanate VS. Each mL of 0.02 N ammonium thiocyanate is equivalent to 3.397 mg of AgNO3.
